Rest in Motion · Summer Dance Workshops

Rest in Motion · Summer Dance Workshops

In a world that often equates movement with effort and rest with stillness, Rest in Motion invites you to explore a space where these opposites dissolve into one another. Set in the remote wild beauty of Paleohori, nestled in the mountains of Lefkada, this summer dance program offers a rare opportunity to reconnect with your unique movement through dance improvisation, experiential anatomy, artistic expression and somatic exploration.

Across four immersive periods, participants will engage with workshops led by international facilitators, each bringing their own approach to dance and embodied practice, offering tools to uncover new pathways of expression and perception and inviting you to being fully present in your body—moving not out of habit or expectation, but from a place of deep listening and awareness.

The experience extends beyond the dance floor: Life at Paleohori is a rhythm of its own—waking up early in the morning with the sounds of the forest, sharing nourishing meals, resting under the shade of trees, and moving together in an open-air wooden studio surrounded by cypress trees and kermes oaks. The space itself becomes a part of the process: a nest where movement is not forced but inviting and unfolding, where rest is not passive but deeply alive.

Sharing the space is an essential part of this journey. A temporary community forms, built on mutual care, support, and shared exploration. From heart circles to late-night conversations under the stars, and from dancing to sharing the maintenance of the space, every aspect of daily life feeds into a sense of connection—both with oneself and with others. Movement is not just something we do, but something we experience in a relational and expansive way.

At its core, Rest in Motion is an invitation:

to move and be moved organically;

to dance not for mastery but for playful exploration;

to trust the unfolding while dancing;

to surrender to the body’s innate ability to move, to shift, to fall, to recover, to express and to regulate;

to listen—to the weight of the body, to gravity’s embrace, to the breath shaping us from within;

to unlearn of effort, to soften into trust, to open to renewal;

to return to a more instinctive, flowing, regulated way of sensing and moving, to the simple joy of being;

Α space where presence, fluidity, and embodiment weave together, offering a unique chance to step outside the rush of daily life and into a process of renewal, play, and deep listening.

Who is it for

Anyone who wishes to engage with dance and movement improvisation in a safe environment, within a co-living set up in nature is more than welcome! No matter of age, physicality or dance-practice level.

Sharing daily caring of the space

Every participant is invited to take responsibility for their presence in the space by contributing to its daily care. This involves small, collective, and individual efforts to keep the shared camp space clean, well-maintained, and tidy. These are simple daily rituals rather than labor-intensive tasks and are expected from everyone staying in the camp, as it will be our ‘home’ for a while. These communal activities not only help maintain common spaces but also deepen our connection with the environment and one another. By integrating them into our daily rhythm, we cultivate a shared sense of responsibility while nourishing creativity and sustainability.

Heart circles

Paleohori is not just a hosting space. It’s a field of exploration of togetherness, of meltingness through the other, in order for one to enhance profound transformations. Every year we get to understand a bit more about the unpredictable nature of human dynamics and feel no more than humble as hosts to all that unfolds. Heart circles helped us to see the other beyond the rational, the image, and its projections, by engaging in deep active listening and articulating emotions. We saw people growing from individuals to communities with collective emotional intelligence that we rarely encounter. We see people traveling from country to country to reunite after the courses end or engaging in new adventures together.☀️ We know that heart circles can engineer higher emotional availability in order to process intense emotions collectively and individually. They hold a space for anyone ready enough to evolve through a highway of collective care or for the shy hearts that absorb like sponges, all contributing to a collective emotional regulation, release, and growth. From now on, we’ll be implementing heart circles in all our programs, because beyond better regulation, we need rituals that ground us to our human nature. 🫂
